Yellow Horn tree

The tree has lacy, compound leaves with serrated margins.  It is commonly called the Chinese chestnut. It blooms in the spring and is ready to harvest in the fall at year three. The nuts are edible, but contain up to 60% oil, so make an excellent feedstock for the biofuel industry.
Yellow horn grows to about 18 feet with a 12 foot canopy.
PosterThe tree needs to go dormant during the winter months. It is currently being planted in northern Alabama, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and North Carolina.
